How NET100 Plans Optimal Wi-Fi Coverage for Your Building

A fundamental consideration for designing Wi-Fi coverage is ensuring wireless devices have sufficient signal strength to reach all users. The right tool makes it easy to identify the right number and the right locations for your APs to meet everyone’s needs.

To do this, NET100 uses a Wi-Fi design tool from Ekahau. Here’s a quick overview of how our designers use this tool to place APs for optimal Wi-Fi coverage:

  1. Import & Scale Floor Plan – It all starts with a CAD or image file of your building’s floor plan. We import the file into the design tool and set the scale. If no CAD or mage file is available NET100 will provide assistance.
  2. Draw Walls – CAD files can be automatically imported into the tool, but walls can be added to image files too. Then we assign attenuation values.
  3. Select AP Model – The Ekahau design tool has thousands of AP models and antenna configurations to choose from, including the most up-to-date coverage patterns from the leading AP hardware vendors. By creating a predictive design using the exact AP model planned for deployment, NET100 is able to provide clients with the most accurate and reliable design possible.
  4. Place APs for Primary Coverage – With the Ekahau planning tool, our designers can get a clear picture of the client’s network coverage and signal strength, and can modify AP locations and configurations on the fly to visualize exactly how those modifications can impact coverage.
  5. Place APs for Secondary Coverage – Secondary coverage visualization allows our designers to spot gaps in coverage that require additional APs to ensure smooth roaming behavior and provide redundancy in case of failure.

Wi-Fi coverage planning for an office environment may be different than Wi-Fi coverage planning in a hospitality, dorm room or warehouse setting where more antennas are usually required to extend coverage in difficult to access locations. NET100 will sort it all out to achieve the Wi-Fi coverage you need for your environment.
