Convenience & Security – The Mobile Device as Access Credential

Virtually everyone carries around a mobile phone these days and with nearly 300 million of these devices in use in the United States, using them as an access credential makes perfect sense. Plus, access cards are often forgotten, lost or borrowed, whereas a mobile phone is rarely more than five feet away from its owner at all times.

Mobile access is growing in popularity, and the Symmetry Blue Bluetooth reader from AMAG Technology, implemented by NET100, can help your organization make the leap.

The Symmetry Blue reader combines Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) with conventional card reading capabilities for integrated access control. The Symmetry Blue readers work with Symmetry Apps for Android and iOS smart phones. They read NXP MIFARE, DESFire smart cards, 125-khz proximity cards and Bluetooth credentials.

In addition to working with AMAG’s software and controllers, the readers also work with any controller supporting industry standard Wiegand or OSDP communications. F2F and AMAG’s 20mA (MCLP) communications are also available.

The Symmetry Apps and mobile credentials are free of charge and do not require a license. Enrollment of smart phones with the Symmetry system is straightforward and does not require a separate portal or third party subscription.

Mobile phone credentials can be recorded within the Access Control Software as separate credentials and can share the same access rights as a physical card. Enrollment is either through USB encoder or by input of the virtual credential identifier, which is viewable through the mobile app. Credentials can also be created within the access control system and then, with the 937-USB model encoder, encode them as virtual credentials on mobile devices.

Symmetry Blue readers can be installed in place of an existing card reader or alongside it for situations where existing card technology is not being changed. The readers not only work across the whole Symmetry product range, they also support standard/open communications protocols for use with other access control systems.

The multi-technology platform allows organizations to upgrade their security system when ready. You can transition to OSDP regardless of the access control system used. Bluetooth technology and no licensing fees provide an affordable path to a mobile solution, enabling you to easily future proof your security solution.
