HDBaseT is the Clear Choice for Display Environments

HDBaseT has been around for 10 years as a global standard for the transmission of ultra-high-definition audio and video. Its continued popularity comes from two compelling technical advantages it brings to many applications.

Technical Advantages

  • Transports uncompressed 4K signals over 100m of twisted pair cable, preferably Cat6A. By contrast, HDMI only supports up to 12m of cable.
  • Provides power on the same cable that carries audio and video. Savings on installation costs are significant for displays when AC outlets are not required.

Applications

Any environment that uses a large number of digital displays will be better served by HDBaseT than by any other connectivity standard, including…

  • Hotels – where there is at least one TV in every guest room
  • Hospitals – where there are TVs and medical displays in each patient room and nurse station
  • Restaurants & Bars – where there are many wide screen TVs
  • Airports – where there are large numbers of displays for flight information as well as TVs in waiting areas
  • Corporations – where displays are used in the lobby, executive meeting rooms, collaborative work spaces, and individual offices and cubicles.

Testing

While there are specific tools for testing the HDBaseT application itself to ensure proper resolution, frame rate and other video specifications, the cabling infrastructure needs to be tested as well – just like when deploying IP-based LANs.

If Category 6A cable is deployed for an HDBaseT system, it must be certified to meet the TIA Category 6A standard, including alien crosstalk testing. This could be important for receiving and preserving equipment manufacturer warranties.

NET100 uses Fluke Networks’ DSX-8000 Cable Analyzer for HDBaseT deployments. It accelerates every step of the copper certification process to ensure that your connected displays operate problem-free and at peak performance.
